Secrets behind Self-Grooming

The significance of self-grooming goes hand in hand with having high self-esteem. I find that self-grooming and self-care products are a popular topic on social media these days, but is poorly explained. You read about organic products, new face creams, the best body lotions, and which brand of whitening teeth strips work the best. This is all great, but the true essence goes much deeper than that. Those products are nothing if you don’t know the basics of self-care. Maybe some days you aren’t convinced that you should practice regular self-grooming, for whatever personal reasons you might have. I would go as far as to say it’s taboo to say that someone might not brush their teeth twice a day, shower every day, moisturize their body, shave (if they like it, not because they have to), style their hair, putting on some makeup, and dress nicely. By ‘dress nicely’ my example would be that even if you work from home (especially due to the world circumstance at the moment), you still putting the effort of wearing something other than pajamas or sweats.

Is it because you think your resources are better saved for working longer hours? Looking after others? You don’t like to look at your body naked, let alone touch it by washing yourself well and moisturizing it after? Your teeth are crooked, you don’t like to smile anyway, so why bother? Why would I want to put on nice clothes on this fat, skinny, flabby, lazy, unfit body? My hair is thin and oily and I just don’t like to deal with it, so why bother trying? Does this sound like something you say or have said to yourself? If not, great, but I did not make those things up, I heard and seen them said and done, and some I even felt that way myself. So don’t feel alone or lost, because you can change!

Start self-care by changing whichever one you feel needs improvement, and do one thing daily to make a change. Self-grooming, in a nutshell, is a concept, a part of healthy self-esteem. It’s about being as kind to yourself as you would be to others and loving yourself to the core. It’s important to be able to accept that there are places you can work on yourself, step back, create a plan, and start doing those new daily choices. You will feel more confident. You will feel more self-aware. You will be honest with yourself. And you will love and respect yourself more by not ignoring self-care, but accepting what is and creating positive changes and habits.
